Related Party Transactions

One thing i don't like to see is when the owner owns a lot of another company in the same industry. There are some very small companies where that would make sense. But look at birkshire hathway with em before they pulled things together with, you know, blue chip and all an um and diversifie retailing - it was very complication. It's hard to figure out why, why didn't they all just put it together?
