The Importance of General Purpose AI
I think if one country or corporation develops general purpose AI and keeps it for themselves, that would be a game changer for the global order. China has a clear intention to be the world leader in this area. My view is that general purpose AI is still some way off. We're already seeing lethal autonomous weapons being used on the battlefield. And I just came from a meeting in Amsterdam where people are now talking about how do we ensure that these weapons, which are coming, are going to be used ethically.
