Shakespeare's Gender Disguising
Shakespeare was drawn to theatre partly because of his sexual attraction to particular other men. This, i think, puts a new dimension of meaning into the frequent gender play and disguising in sh Shakespeare's comedies. For instance, you have a man falling in love with a woman who is of the female sex, but who has taken on a male nder. So these two people who are drawn to each other and who have romantic scenes together, are of opposite sexes, but the same gender.
