I think that the US and I maybe some western European democracies have effectively been post-democratic since the 1970s. The three organizations that gave real substantive power to working class people were political parties which were federations of local clubs there were the trade unions, churches and religious institutions. By 2000 these organizations simply disintegrate and the only connection ordinary citizens have with government is voting in a primary or general election where the party's going to win no matter right? We moved to what I call neoliberal technocracy in the 90s and in 2000s and various rebellions they have different local motives sometimes but you know Bernie Sanders on the left trumps voters not Trump himself he's just a charlatan
