"It's really hard because I grew up in a Caribbean household and it was very clear like men do this, women do this," she says. "I think if a child is fortunate enough to have a teacher or a family that's like, hey, what do you want? Like having those conversations, you have a better chance of figuring out who you are younger than if you're always dealing with people saying no."
