When it comes to fixing for privacy and security, it is no different than any other innovation. Your decisions when it comes to data could affect somebody else's life. There will be a lot of forgiveness in my experience from asking the wrong question or taking the wrong initiative. My lesson is to ask questions, seek advice of legal team, document things whenever possible but if you have concerns, say the worst thing at the time.

Nishant Bhajaria is cybersecurity and data privacy executive and the author of “Data Privacy: A Runbook for Engineers”.
