For most of human history a they weren'td at least for te types of issuesthat we're thinking about, of the end of humanity. But ultimately, the natural risks are relatively small. In contrast, it's only since the development of nuclear weapons that we have really had enough power as a species to be able to destroy ourselves. This is ushering in these new anthropogenic risks, which i think are much higher levels.
