How Can You Enter Politics as an Honest Person?

There are a series of these films about an honest son in politics and how they get destroyed. Do you think it's possible for an honest, decent person to rise in the american political system and have any leverage? I mean, i think the closest we get to that is with burney, and look how they din't.
