The History of the Manhattan Skyscraper
More than 3,500 tons of steel was pre-fabricated off site in Pennsylvania and then driven and delivered into New York. Closely following the steel front upwards was the building's kind of then revolutionary curtain wall cladding system. So you had this ornate terracotta and limestone stonework used to kind of infill and clad around the structural steel work that actually carries the building's weight. And incredibly that sharp top corner, the top of the building, that front corner is just two meters wide and has an angle of 25 degrees.
