The Origins of Artemis Cults
Athens and Sparta attribute the founding of their Artemis cults to Orestes and his sister Ephigenia. Brounron is the most famous sanctuary of Artemis, located in Attica on the seashore. For the Athenians, there was a legend behind its establishment best told in Euripides's place. The myth suggests that human sacrifice may have been practiced at one point in Greece.
