Is There a Way to Regulate the Power of Platforms?
There are real possibilities of state level and transnational actors challenging the power of platforms. But if we want functioning democratic associations, they tend to work best when they're smaller. I think that's where you get much better functioning alternatives along the lines of what we currently have in the free and open source software movement. It's also difficult to see how these kinds of services and tools would get funded because there would be huge inequalities of the kind of wealth people have access to.
