i was a late, late comer to the whole inflammation story. If there's one thing you can fix in an aging dog or an aging person, or even an aging mouse, if you can fix that sort of chronic sterile inflammation, that's going to have a big impact on function systemically. i think coloric restriction is really effective at tamping n on the increase in age related inflammatory signals. I suspect that's probably true in people. There's some evidence from the controlled calory studies to support that. Obviously, most people aren't going to be able to do 30% chloric restriction for any long period of time.
