A lot of people were conned into buying growth stocks. Retires probably felt that they could afford to retire because their nest egg got a lot bigger during the pandemic. Well now that that's a rotten egg, they've lost a ton of money. So old people now have less wealth, but more expenses. That may mean that they have to get a job.
