How Do You Feel Contented When You're Stigmatized?
We turn our brains off when it happens to somebody else and just say, oh, well, you know, they just, their character was defective. And then psychological distancing, it's similar. We want to not really feel empathy because it opens the Pandora's box of do I have a moral obligation to publicly defend this person that the entire world hates? So we don't want our conscience to say, to put ourselves at risk of becoming subjected to the same consequences as the person that's being attacked.
