Warren Beatty's Ishtar
Ishtar opened at number one at the box office, making 4.3 million in its first weekend and then dropping into an abyss after that. Beatty would blame the media for Ishtar's failure. But it's also pretty clear that Warren Beatty was having trouble adjusting to mid-80s corporate media driven America. In the aftermath of Ishtar, Beatty decided to direct Dick Tracy himself and make it the mainstream hit he thought he needed. And that is where Madonna came in.
