The Importance of Being Transparent

When you're a tiny crustacean, it would be handy to be pretty much completely transparent. A paper published in February 2023 looked into what exactly was going on with the these larval eyes and figured out that what they were looking at wasn't exactly their eyes but actually a dome of reflective organic glass. The domes are made of crystalline nanospheres described as being disco ball-like which causes them to reflect different colors.
