Dictator Salizar believed that the work place was this great instrument of social control. He fused autocratic rule with more conservative doctrines of the catholic church. Secret police would arrest workers wo made trouble or spoke out about worker treatment. They were seen as agents of communism. The dictator is the father of the great family, that is the portuguese people.
