CHAPTER

The Role of Language in Perpetuating Stigma

i think it's not generally understood by the public that you can recover from, or live a reasonable life with a serious mental illness such as scisophrania. So i want to talk about the role of language in perpetuating stigma. I grew up in a time that gay people were looked at as sick perverts. And there's almost no educational way to challenge that. It's actually meeting day lesbians, bisexual people as peerers to that terrors down the stereotype. You're not a sick pervert. The more a people you meet, the more it colors the picture differently and it changes stigma.
