The Politics of Apologies and Repatriations in Japan
President Yun has been accused by liberals of making concessions to Japan before South Korea's got anything in return. The issue approximate, and of course, this latest controversy is a case in which plaintiffs representing families that have been caught up in the Japanese imperial expansion served as forced labor. How do you get beyond this issue in a way that doesn't aggravate opinion in Japan? And also, the Japanese government's position consistently that the 1965 normalization treaty resolved all of those pre war issues in perpetuity.
