Is There a Middle Class?
One of the biggest lies of market fundamentalism or neoliberalism, whatever you want to call it, is the idea that a thriving middle class is the consequence of economic progress and growth. And nothing could be farther from the truth. The reason why our economy is so large and prosperous is because we have a large and prosperous middle class. That's right. This is an argument about cause and effect. It's not just that that markets don't create middle classes. Democresies do.
