The First Folio of Shakespeare
Shakespeare's plays as we now know them come from something called the first folio. After Shakespeare died in 1623, two of his former colleagues put together everything they could find and publish a complete works. Most of them actually are in Washington, D.C., just on Capitol Hill,. The Folger Shakespeare Library has more than a third of the surviving editions. And then there are various others scattered throughout libraries and institutions including universities.
