Do We Need a Fractional Reserve Bitcoin System?
I don't actually think that we need a fractional reserve Bitcoin system in which fractional Bitcoin is issued and masquerades as real Bitcoin. But what we do need is extensible money, which means you'll always need a money that has an elastic source for lending. And so where will money elasticity come from in a Bitcoin standard? It will still have to come from government currencies and banking systems that use fractional reserve. So I believe that that sort of fractional reserve system will always exist in dollar terms. In Bitcoin terms, but that Bitcoin will become more of a price reference for the rest of government money.
