The Effect of Ketamine on Depression and Learning and Memory

Ketamine's primary target is something called glutamate. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter signal that regulates serotonin to some extent. When ketamine binds the receptor or glutamate, it involves this complex signaling pathway inside of the cell. And that seems to affect both immune signaling and serotonergic signaling. This probably explains why ketamine at certain doses has that amnesic effect.
