Paul's letters don't contain anything like a narrative description of jesus life, but he was operating in the mid first century. A lot of that stuff is the same stuff we find in greater detail in the later gospels. One problem that won't go away for scholars is the question of the authorship of some of paul's letters. The notion that paul didn't know or didn't care about the historical jesus is thoroughly defunct.
