The Loss of Sleep in Space Flight
Charles Olin was chief flight surgeon at the time of Ball 13. He spoke with Dr. Charles Chuck Barry just a few months before his death. Barry understood that sleep deprivation would lead to fatigue and hyperthermia, both of which would directly impair their ability to think clearly. To him, sleep was not a luxury. It was vital to maintain the crew's health for the formidable mission-critical tasks to come.
