The Poor Laws of Ireland
Sicyodelier: The poor laws effectively put the burden to caring for starving Irish masses on Irish landowners and business owners. Huge numbers of Irish people fled their homeland in this period, many of whom wound up in the United States. Tens of thousands of famine victims flee to the seat of the imperial government, hoping for a chance to survive. This constant influx of misery and crime is almost impossible to restrain.
