Building a Clock That Will Last 10,000 Years
The clock design is meant to keep running for 10,000 years. But it does assume a certain amount of periodic maintenance. The pendulum is powered by the temperature difference of day to night. It's also synchronized to the sun in that we have a slot that allows sunlight and facing south so that right at solar noon, sunlight comes in and hits a piece of metal that expands.
