Dominican Republican Haiti are on the island of Hispaniola, which is famous for being the first place that Columbus Discovered. Today Haiti is about a third or so of the island and the Dominican Republic lays over the bulk of the island. So this importation of slaves to Hispaniola starts because they're like well. We need more laborers, right? By the start of the 1600s freedmen on the island out numbered enslaved people. Most slave plantation system takes a little while to get going but it's not long before you have an intimate relationship with one another.
