The Office of High Priest and Divine Guidance

There was a special kind of guidance that god gave the israelites through the high priest. Also, at some point before the time of christ, the urim and thumim apparently ceased to be used. One of the reasons was likely the rise of the office of prophet. And jewish leaders came to rely more on prophets than on high priests divine guidance.
