The AFL's Anti-Communist Policy

In 1945, in the attendant official start of the Cold War, that would lead to a reactionary partnership between the AFL CIO and the US government. In 1944, the AFL established the Free Trade Union Committee, the FTUC, which sought to undermine communist led unions in Western Europe. The CIA agreed to finance the FTUC's efforts to subvert communist unions abroad in exchange for intelligence on foreign labor organizations. By the 1950s, collusion between anti-communist labor and the US state would deepen.
