F1 teams measure the downforce in points. Every time the wind tunnel is turned on and the wind rises above a certain speed, that counts as one run. The more efficiently your car cuts through the air, the lower the lap times, the quicker the car goes. It's all about trying to manage what we call the flow structures through the car. And without an experimental tool where you can measure down to sub levels of gains, it's very difficult to accumulate those marginal gains.
