People don't believe things for no reason. They have epistemic reasons, but they also have social reasons. We'd say that this is another place where there is ongoing academic debate. Currently, there is much less motive reasoning going on than you might think. When you get a new piece of information, what do you do? And how well does it fit with everything else i know about the world? So if you are doing your best to have correct beliefs and not having any other motivation rather than seeking truth, then we're getting somewhere.
