Are We Talking About Absolute and Relative Risk?

Peter Bergen: If i say that eating a grape fruit doubles my risk of bunions, i need to know numbers we're talking about. Most studies report relative risks where we don't even know what the absolute numbers are., he says. Bergen: By my calculation, which you can do straight out of the data reported in the woman's health initiative, the absolute increase in risk is less than one % per thousand people. He says women who are diagnosed with breast cancer while on hormones have a better prognosis if they take them for five years or more.
