The Crucifixion of the Cross
Paul says if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. He's saying this is the absolute core, significant, important piece of our faith. C-R-U-C-I comes from crucifixion and excruciating. So the worst thing we could imagine going through that is described in terms of the cross as excruciating.
