The Reification of Mean in Chinese Literature

Fate is a really good translation of mean, fate in the sense of the Latin fadum. Means include things that can't be brought about nor avoided by human effort or agency. Many thinkers saw fate as an external sin that opposed the subject and defined it. People felt powerless and alienated by fate because there seemed to be nothing they could do against it.
