The Asteroids Aren't a Cold War Armament, but They Are a Good Idea
An asteroid 100 meters in radius hitting Earth would release more explosive power than the combined peak Cold War arsenal. Survival is a bit iffy and it depends on where you are, folks in the other hemisphere of the planet wouldn't really feel initial impact to darken the sky. Most asteroids crash into the ocean, there's much more of it and there's no real dust and fallout and fires from that.
