The Difference Between Product and Project in Open Source

Inpt: When you've got a great product, where your audience understands what it is, and they can see how that's going to make their lives bet it's going to take something annoying and painful away from them, then theyre oin to become customers. Inpt: Many people will look at open sauce projects for utility first. They're not just looking at it from a pain resolution perspective. And in my mind, the key element here is there's got to be independent value in the project.
