The Agony of the Savior
The only time in the Greek New Testament where that word is used. Can you imagine Satan and all his hosts fighting against the Savior? That was verse 43. And then what we saw in verse 44, being in an agony, praying more earnestly, sweat like great drops of blood. Like I said, that would pick up a physician's ear. What does he mean by agony? We've seen all kinds of suffering before. We'll see more of it later in the life of Paul and others. But a suffering, an agony that is unique to Jesus, something that only the Son of God himself can endure and survive.
