The Three Component Model of Animal Learning
I see the working memory model as a broad framework. I think if it's going to be applicable, it has to be relatively simple at one level. And I think the three component model continues to serve that. The episodic buffer is a further layer of complexity. But it's the three component models that can be picked up and used by people in second language learning or in teaching reading. We also need people who are interested in hearing. And of course, people who link it up with long term memory and meaning. So all of those directions in which it can be expanded and elaborated while still keeping a sort of rather general focus where the information flows together.
