Dr. Abel: I first started thinking about questions of media in Japan a long time ago before I went to grad school. He spent three years making Japanese TV commercials in New York, which is basically producing short 35 millimeter films at a high budget. And that was sort of my first interaction with the Japanese media world and then kind of been teaching film in various ways ever since grad school.
