The Emerald
The Traverse
Extreme trail runner, richard asquith explains why extreme mountain climbers do what they do. The point is not the exertion involved, it's the degree of immersion or involvement with the landscape. Many alpenists recount having photo realistic hallucinations of other climbers walking next to them. A tibetan woman accompanied them up the entire mountain for a week. They both saw her. Why do it? For the accomplishment. The trance is the feeling underneath that drives it. It's the traverse.
