The State of Nature Is Hobbes, Roussean, General Will

Hobbes is often compared with Schmidt, but he didn't have that friend-enemy dynamic working. He's also seen as a progenitor of the social contract theory. Most political theorists are not as interested in fear as Hobbes is. And so they'll be reluctant to support a monarchy for that reason.
