Frederick II: A Biography
Frederick is complex, isn't it? It's sort of paradoxical, because on the one hand, he's a great practitioner of the arts of peace. He keeps writing poetry right through these wars. The Swaldum Orton, which he is also working on during the Seven Years War, continues to play his flute even on campaign. I mean, you know, the enemy could hear the flute music of the king wafting across the fields from his tentions. Rather disturbing experience for those who were planning to fight the next day.
