The Role of Mining in the Amazon
In the West Amazon, gold is embedded in the sand. You almost need a microscope to see gold in the particles of the sand. Gold miners will burn your house down because they're poor people that can't figure out another way of making a living. They'll just get like an old motor and a hose and somehow they're getting mercury. And so it's really, and a lot of times these are super nice people. These are people I spent Christmas with the gold miners last year.
