As an undergraduate at medical school in glasgow for six years, i started off wanting to be a surgeon. And then i went into socitry. And suddenly i felt this was my niece. I found it very, very exciting. A at that point there was less research. There was it was considered an under dog. But i thought it was a exciting and different because it had so many opportunities. So as an undergraduate, i went round and went and talked to people in all those places - oxford, the maudsley or am or edinburgh. The psychiatrist who inspired me is Professor bond. He has been my er guide and mentor for the rest of my life
