The History of Valentine's Day
Valentine's day was dedicated to saint valentine of turney, a third century bishop who was beheaded by the emperor claudius the second. The pope instead declared february fourteenth saint valentinus' day on February 14th. Some scholars believe thatvalentine died a martyr for the venerable institution of marriage. Others suggest it celebrates another priest named valentine, who also fell foul of old claudiuss axe band when claudius outlawed marriage for young men in favor of conscripting them into the roman legions. Or that valentine himself was imprisoned, and during his incarceration, restored the sight of the jailer's blind daughter.
