The only thing a sinner can do is cry out like the man in Luke God be merciful to me. On Calvinism they've got the cart before the horse you don't get your house cleaned up before you ask the maid to come in to clean it. According to the Calvinistic concept here this mob boss this tax collector who was unwilling to lift his eyes to heaven he was already regenerated and born again so that's why he could stand some distance away beating his breast saying God be Merciful To Me. The moral of the story is what humble yourself and you will be exalted.
