Is There a Difference Between Comedy and Horror?
I wanted the comedy to lead into horror because it feels to me that's the natural way in which you can really be grasped by something unsettling or disturbing. I like the idea that she wouldn't necessarily identify with a victim because that would also mean that she was like part of a certain film of a certain narrative so if you're going to fulfill that kind of fantasy even to yourself that makes sense. In life we exist on so many different registers and it can shift so quickly anyway so why not that be a part of literature as well? There were friends that were so hooked on Mona who helped me to be like okay she has to live for me to exist otherwise this is not gonna work
