The Year of the Five Emperors

Pertinax was the city prefect in Rome when Comodus died on New Year's Eve 192, 193. He thought he would be assassinated by his colleagues but instead they asked him to take the throne because Comodus had been assassinated. Pertinax becomes the first emperor in the year of the five emperors but only lasts three months as he refuses to pay a bribe effectively to the Praetorian guard. So you went up with a power vacuum and hanging like a sword of Damocles you have Septimius Severus who drops down onto Roman a lightning strike leading his legions into the form Ramanam. Then stays there until his death in York in 211.
