The Great Man Theory of History

J. Edgar Hoover feared that unlike his Oakland colleagues, Fred Hampton was working out of a major US city with a very large black population. Chicago was really one of the largest black population concentration in the United States then. It's not an accident that our first black president came out of Chicago. So it's not just a great man history, but proximate to this center of black political power made it provided the possibility of a much larger movement than what you saw in Oakland.
